Your Candidate

Bill's Background

Bill was raised in the south end of the county and graduated from S.C.H.C. in 1985. He is married to his wife of 34 years, Wendy, and they have four grown children and nine grandchildren. Bill and Wendy are members of Way of the Cross Baptist Church. Your candidate retired from the Chattanooga Police Dept. after a stellar career of 28 years with many accomplishments, gathering unmatched experience that has assisted him in building a Sheriff's Office better suited to serve us and one we can all be proud of. Bill received the Chattanooga Police Department's Outstanding Performance Award, awards from the U.S. Atty, Hamilton County District Atty and the United States Department of Justice, just to name a few, as well as frequent recognition for his success as a patrolman as well as his very successfull investigations and prosecutions of murders, serial rapes, and multiple other violent felonies. 


Your candidate has experience working undercover narcotics and vice cases and midnight shift patrol in the high crime areas of Chattanooga prior to being assigned to the Homicide Unit in 1994, where he worked as a detective, supervisor, and management. He completed his career after being assigned and successfully restructuring the 100 plus person investigative services as well as helping create the D.A's Office Cold Case Unit.


Bill has taught thousands of law enforcement professionals from the rookie patrolman to the seasoned police administrator all across the southeastern United States. His specialized training covers the investigations of the murders of police officers and how some department policies are putting officers at risk. Bill has been contacted by police administrators advising him their department policies are being changed due to his training. Bill's class has been used by an F.B.I. Agent as a training point at the F.B.I. headquarters

Your candidate's top issues

Bill has built a professional, courteous and accountable agency that will better serve our citizens. Without that, everything else we attempt to build will fail. We will continue to build partnerships with our citizens and to address the drug epidemic we have at hand, along with all the crime that comes with it. We will continue to work every day to improve our department as well as the county's future!!

Decades of involvement

Bill has volunteered much of his adult life, coaching Sequatchie Co softball and baseball teams, serving as President of Sequatchie Co. G.I.R.L.S. softball and V.P of the Sequatchie County High School baseball team's Bullpen club.During this time he and his board created the Tee-ball leage that exists today. Bill presented the idea of the S.C. Middle School softball team and helped establish the program that exists today. Bill has also served the Sequatchie Co. Food Bank and various community centers around the county.  Bill currently serves on several boards and committees.
